Classes 2025: districts that do not reach 190 school days must make up lost time

The ministers of education from all over the country defined that those provinces that do not comply with a minimum of 190 school days in 2025 must make up for the lost time. The decision was made after the last assembly of the Federal Council of Education (CFE)while most jurisdictions finish defining their 2025 school calendars.

The resolution 484/24 of the CFE considers as an “effective class day” a day with a minimum floor of 4 clock hours of pedagogical activity in school. If this minimum is not met, “compensation measures” for “the care of school trajectories.”

Although the Law No. 25,864 In 2003, it established a school calendar of at least 180 days; since 2011, the CFE has set the goal of reaching 190 effective school days. However, the most common thing is that these goals are not met.

What is known about class hours in Argentina

Earlier this year, a report by Observatory of Argentines for Education showed that Only 5 provinces had planned 190 days of class in 2024. From that number we must subtract the days lost for different reasons (teaching strikes, infrastructure problems, absenteeism or weather factors, among others).

In recent years, it has become common for provinces to announce 190 days of school and then present shortened school calendars. The panorama of effective compliance with the school calendar varies greatly between provinces. This year, for example, Chubut celebrated that there will be more than 140 days of class for the first time in 25 years.
