He November 30th is celebrated throughout the Argentine Republic as National Mate Day.. And of course, it is the country’s characteristic infusion, therefore it was necessary to establish a date that would honor such a tradition. The anniversary was established in 2014 through Law 27,117, sanctioned on December 14.

And the first celebration of the day took place on November 30, 2015. The date was chosen in honor of the birth of Andrés Guasurarí y Artigas, who was governor of the province of Misiones from 1815 to 1819 and promoted the production and marketing of the yerba mate

National Mate Day: who was Andrés Guasurarí y Artigas

Andrés Guasurarí y Artigas, better known as Commander Andresitowas an indigenous Argentine soldier and leader of Guaraní origin. He was one of the first federal leaders of the United Provinces of the Río de La Plata and the only Indian governor in Argentine history. He governed the Greater Province of the Misiones between 1815 and 1819, designated “General Commander of Misiones” by José Gervasio Artigas.

He served in the army of Manuel Belgrano as a soldier and also that of José Artigas. participating in the battles for Argentine independence. His first mission was to recover the missionary towns occupied by Paraguayans on the banks of the Paraná River. He did so under the command of the Indian army, with 500 of his best soldiers. In 1816 he managed to repel the Portuguese-Brazilian attack, managing to defeat the Portuguese in 1817.

In 2012 he was declared a missionary hero, and in 2014 he was promoted to General of the Argentine army. In addition, his birthday was established as National Mate Day, for his work in promoting the production and marketing of yerba during his government of the Greater Province of the Misiones.

What are the keys to preparing a good mate

The keys to preparing a good mate are simple. Fill 3/4 of the porongo, tilt it so that the yerba is at 45 degrees and prime it with a temperature of approximately 86º. If it is higher, the yerba can burn and give it an ugly taste, plus it will wash faster. .
