Pan American Energy (PAE) It has been working on innovation and modernization of its processes with the aim of positioning itself as a benchmark in the energy sector. Recently, they announced the implementation of new technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to your supply chain.
Since 2015, the largest energy company in the private sector has been implementing a series of technological improvements, including the automation of processes, the adoption of platforms “Low Code ” that allow you to create applications without the need to program in complex code, achieving greater productivity, and the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI).
Marcelo Gioffrévice president of Supply Chain and Asset Security, of PAE, explained: “The energy sector demands maximum efficiency throughout its value chain. For this reason at PAE we have been constantly innovatingincorporating new processes, technologies and practices in addition to training all our collaborators and supplier companies to raise the standards of the local industry.”

The innovations adopted by Pan American Energy
Among the main innovations is the use of Robot Process Automation (RPA), which allows automating repetitive and low value-added tasks in purchasing processes that do not require a complex specification. These processes are already in place, so buyers delegate administrative tasks to the system to focus on operational decisions.
An example of this is the process ofSimplified Purchase”, which through purchasing algorithms defines certain inputs, searches the supplier base for which of them can supply them and sends them a price request with a standardized form. Once the comparison is made, the purchase order is made available in the system so that it can be released by the buyer, thus achieving greater operational efficiency by reducing response times.
In addition, PAE adopted platformsLow Code” that replaced traditional tools, such as emails and forms, improving the traceability of processes and facilitating interaction between suppliers, operational areas and support sectors of the company.
Another of the great bets of PAE was the creation of a platform Business Intelligence (BI), which allows a comprehensive view of all procurement, material flow and supplier performance. This tool is essential for making strategic decisions, providing accurate and real-time information, taking into account that the company contracts materials and services from more than 3,000 suppliers.
“Strengthening our area was the hinge that gave way to the great transformation in purchasing and contracting management within the company. Today we have more than 40 boards where you can see exactly where the material is, where it goes, how it comes. We reach levels comparable to those of an e-commerce company in the monitoring of our purchases and contracts, and that in the local oil and gas industry is a novelty”, explains Marcelo Gioffré. The manager adds regarding the challenges within the sector that “there is a future if we have technology, if we are efficient and productive, if we have cost efficiency. “We have to do things better than the rest of the world because the market is very competitive.”.
As a result of the digital transformation work carried out, Pan American Energy was selected this year by ProcureCon 2024 to be a speaker at the annual convention of CPOs (Chief Procurement Officer) as experts in Procurement.

Artificial Intelligence as a key factor for the future
PAE’s vision for the coming years is clearly focused on artificial intelligence, with projects that seek to further deepen the efficiency of its operations. Currently, the company is developing solutions based on generative AI, with three main fronts: assistance to suppliers to resolve questions about purchase orders and payments, the creation of a bot to train new collaborators and a tool that speeds up the creation of annexes. technicians in bidding processes.
“These initiatives underscore PAE’s commitment to continuous innovation, not only as a way to improve our own efficiency, but also as a competitive advantage in a sector in constant evolution”, Gioffré added regarding the tool.
