The regulations, promoted by the governor of Chubut Ignacio “Nacho” Torres before becoming provincial president, modify Article 1 of Annex 1 of the Regulations for the Functioning and Operation of the Comodoro Rivadavia Free Trade Zone established in 1996, which includes a annex of 165 hectares in the city of Trelew to “be used as a warehouse and/or for the development of industrialization activities and services that, due to their characteristics, require said specific location.”
The Comodoro Rivadavia Free Trade Zone is located in a strategic location in the Bioceanic Corridor, which connects the ports of that city, in Argentina, and Puerto Chacabuco, in Chile. The expansion will allow us to respond to the demands of the industrial and commercial sectors, which require that the port and airport areas be used for storage and service; and that the newly added Trelew hectares be used for industrialization activities.
In this way, logistics costs will be reduced, administrative processes will be optimized and a more competitive and attractive environment for companies will be promoted, facilitating local economic development and improvement in regional infrastructure.
In the new sub-free zone of Trelew, companies from different sectors will be established that will be exempt from paying national taxes. The Government of the province of Chubut affirms that the new regulations will not only benefit one city, but the entire region, since they will be able to integrate industrial processes and add value to their products or services in the Trelew Industrial Park.
On the other hand, the resolution indicates that “in the Comodoro Rivadavia free zone the establishment of activities and operations aimed at research, technological innovation and communication will be promoted and facilitated”, with the aim of attracting investments aimed at these areas. .
In addition, it establishes the creation of an internal operating regulation of the Surveillance Committee of the free zone to establish “the rules relating to the use of space, schedules and forms of entry and exit of merchandise and people, waste treatment and minimum conditions that must be met. the contracts to be concluded.”
Torres will lead an event next week with the mayor of Trelew, Gerardo Merino, and other local leaders to formally announce the creation of the new sub-free zone to share “this truly historic milestone with the Trelew people, who deserve to live in a city that should never have ceased to be,” said the governor.
“Currently, all the resources that we export from the province pay many taxes on export duties, which are not shared, therefore they do not return and remain in the national coffers. From the creation of the sub-free zone, everything that is produced and exported will be exempt from taxes, which will give us a very important comparative advantage, which will make us more competitive and will compensate for the gap that, due to higher logistics costs, “It was an unprofitable place for companies to locate,” he explained.
In this regard, he concluded: “Local companies will be able to add value to their resources, which means more work and, ultimately, a virtuous circle: it is a before and after for Trelew and for the province.”
