The official referred to the reduction in the poverty rate, which was announced last week and returned 38%. “This drop was quite surprising, We didn’t think it would go down so much“, he indicated in a talk with a group of journalists accredited at Casa Rosada during the toast that members of the Government made with the reporters who work there.

Sandra Pettovello on the drop in the poverty rate: “It was quite surprising, we didn’t think it would drop so much.”
“The Council (National Coordination of Social Policies) is going to analyze those numberswe have to see why poverty is so low. Our objective is that people can be self-sufficient and have dignity, with quality employment,” added the minister.
The Human Capital index will coexist with the INDEC measurement
However, beyond the Government’s satisfaction with the latest INDEC measurement in this regard, Pettovello also advanced a new way of measuring poverty.
“We are working with the Council to measure poverty not by income, we are making a Human Capital Index. I cannot specify what the variables (that will be used) are because they still have to present the work to me“he assured.
In that sense he added: “We cannot change the INDEC index, it will continue to measure it in its own way every six months. This will be the Human Capital Index specifically. “We want to have it ready as soon as possible but we don’t know what month it will be.”
Finally, Pettovello stressed that the Government will bet on “continue investing in Human Capital as the economy improves, in everything that has to do with ending illiteracy, ensuring that people eat at family tables and not in dining rooms, and that they have quality work.”
