Almost five months ago, the long-time foreign chief of the Islamist Hamas died in an explosion in Tehran. Only now is a country confessing to the crime. And no one is surprised.
Israel has confirmed for the first time the killing of Hamas’ foreign chief Ismail Haniya in July in the Iranian capital Tehran. The statement came during a speech by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz on further action against the Houthi militia in Yemen, which is firing rockets and drones at Israel. “We will attack (the Houthis’) strategic infrastructure and behead their leaders. Just as we did with Hanija, Sinwar and Nasrallah in Tehran, the Gaza Strip and Lebanon,” Katz said, according to his ministry.
Israel killed the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Jihia al-Sinwar, on October 16th and the head of the Lebanese Shiite organization Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, on September 27th in the Lebanese capital Beirut.
The 62-year-old Hanija was killed in a targeted explosion in an Iranian government guest house in Tehran on the night of July 31st. Haniya has been a member of Hamas for decades and most recently carried out his role as the terrorist organization’s foreign chief from the Gulf Emirate of Qatar.
