In a sweeping order released Thursday, a federal judge rejected an effort by the Grammy-winning rapper, whose real name is Shawn Carterand his lead attorney, Alex Spiro, to get the allegations against Jay-Z and Combs dismissed.
The judge Analisa Torres He also rejected the interpreter’s hopes that the true identity of Jane Doe (the name given to the alleged victim to maintain her anonymity) be made public and to speed up the process. As more sordid lawsuits and accusations against Combs have surfaced in recent months detailing his drug-fueled “freakouts” and violence, a graphic lawsuit filed Oct. 20 named the rapper for the Rape of a 13-year-old girl at a party after the 2000 MTV VMAs. Similar in detail to several of John Doe and Jane Doe’s other well-connected lawsuits against Combs, this particular document named a male “Celebrity A” and a female “Celebrity B” as active participants in the rape. On December 8, an amended complaint gave no indication of who “Celebrity B” might have been, but named Jay-Z as “Celebrity A.”
The Sean “Diddy” Combs situation
Former mogul Combs was first accused of rape and other abuse in a quickly settled $30 million lawsuit brought by his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The “All About the Benjamins” rapper denied everything, but changed his tune somewhat in the summer when 2016 footage from a swanky Los Angeles hotel security camera revealed a nearly naked Combs punching Ventura while she attempted to escape down a hallway. Following the March 25 raids by the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies on Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami, Combs was arrested while in New York on sex trafficking and other charges.
Combs, already behind bars at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, having been repeatedly denied his efforts to secure $50 million bail, Combs’ attorney-heavy criminal trial is scheduled to begin on May 5 of next year. If found guilty, Combs, 55, could spend his entire life behind bars.
