Slow down

Have you ever consciously driven 100 km/h on the highway? Try it, you’ll be amazed at how relaxed you get to your destination – a few minutes later maybe, but it’s worth it. There is also a lot to be said for 100 km/h: it helps to achieve our climate goals, reduces noise and reduces traffic accidents with all their human suffering and high costs. According to VCÖ, even the real performance of a road is higher at lower speeds, i.e. more vehicles can use the road per hour, which in turn reduces traffic jams. The arguments went on for a long time. Maybe you have to ask the question differently: What, apart from an archaic illusion of freedom, actually speaks for 130 km/h?

Slow down

Driving at 100 km/h on the motorway would by no means plunge me into deep depression. I cannot understand why this topic is so emotionally charged, as if a fundamental human right were at stake. So, dear arguers and supposed owners of the truth: please take your foot off the gas. What speaks to me against a general reduction in the maximum speed on the motorways is simply the fact that the associated and non-controversial improvements in terms of environmental protection are rather marginal. Also: Anyone who is in favor of 100 km/h can do that now. It’s not forbidden – as long as you use the right lane.

And what is your opinion about it?
