This year marks the tenth anniversary of the formulation of the conception of the global community with a shared future by President Xi Jinping. These days, the Chinese Government successively publishes white papers titled: “A global community with a shared future: China’s proposals and actions” and “The Belt and Road Initiative: a key pillar of the global community with a shared future”, which serve as a reference for the international community to fully understand the ideological and practical connotations of this concept.
The construction of the global community with a shared future is China’s response to the questions of the time. In today’s world, new and old problems are intertwined in complicated contradictions, and deficits in peace, development, security and governance are aggravated. Humanity finds itself at a historical crossroads between unity and division, between cooperation and confrontation. In these dilemmas the common interests of all humanity are at stake and the wisdom of the various countries is put to the test.
The proposal put forward by Xi Jinping to the world 10 years ago advocates openness, shared profits, equality, mutual respect, for a new type of economic globalization, a path of peaceful development, a new type of international relations, for true multilateralism, and for the joint construction of an open and inclusive, clean and beautiful world, of lasting peace, universal security and shared prosperity.
The underlying logic of this conception is to discard zero-sum games and hegemonic mentality, with a view to improving global governance and finding a exit from the turbulence that shakes the planet towards a peaceful and prosperous future. In short, what this conception pursues is the common value of all humanity centered on peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom.
Building the global community with a shared future is China’s action to promote common progress. Throughout these 10 years, President Xi Jinping has proposed a series of important initiatives, enriching the connotations of his proposal. The initiative of the Belt and Road is characterized by its open, green and clean character, its zero tolerance for corruption and its firm advancement on the path of inclusive, ecological and high-quality development.
By 2030, this initiative will generate benefits of 1.6 trillion dollars annually for the world. Chinese initiatives for global development, global security and global civilization respond to the important challenges facing the international community and point out the direction of human society from the perspectives of development, security and civilization.
With the joint efforts of China and relevant countries, the historic reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, and the expansion of the BRICS, which are the latest successful examples of building a global community with a shared future. This conception also covers aspects that imply important challenges for human society such as health, climate change and cybersecurity. In these aspects, China brings wisdom and strength in response to global challenges and the improvement of global governance. China has also put forward a series of initiatives to build communities with a shared future at the bi-regional and bilateral levels, playing a constructive role for regional peace and development.
Human beings live in the same global village. We are interdependent and have closely linked interests. We share responsibilities and destiny. Countries of different social systems, ideologies, histories, cultures and levels of development share interests, rights and responsibilities in international affairs, which correspond to the common interests of all humanity.
A better future is not a fruit that falls naturally. The future is something that is achieved with united efforts. China and Argentina are emerging markets and members of the Global South. Both countries share broad and important interests, as well as development tasks. This year marks the first anniversary of Argentina joining the great Belt and Road family.
