The contribution of ontological coaching to politicians to manage in highly complex contexts

It is becoming more and more noticeable the complexity of the social fabric, of being a society and doing in society. It is no longer enough to say that the situation is difficult or complicated.

It’s more, that mere explanation amplifies the real feeling of hopelessness with frustration and blocks the necessary response capacity in times of social and economic turbulence like the one we are experiencing.

Ontological coaching for politicians

In this point, the political class began to take note and demonstrate a certain degree of awareness regarding this context that, in the words of the philosopher and sociologist Edgar Morin, “is presented as a systemic complexity that surrounds us and permeates everything.”

From this context ariseso, some following questions: How to treat this phenomenon of systemic complexity, that is, complexity seen as a system of multiple variables that interact and make up a dynamic, volatile and uncertain structure? Why are several politicians resorting more frequently and naturally to the ontological coaching proposal? What do you expect from the presence of a professional ontological coach, both personally and in relation to a team or organization?

Without a doubt, they took note of the growth of ontological coaching, its proposal and especially the advancesinstances of improvement and results, based on the presence and accompaniment of a professional coach that facilitates the consideration and learning of how to manage in highly complex contexts and situations. Above all, when observing that said management appears increasingly inefficient when starting from a strategic and operational perspective, with responses and tools that could have been useful at one time but that, clearly, are no longer useful and need to be renewed or replaced by others that respond to the challenges of the time.

Ontological coaching is present with a voice of possibility throughout the country to generate the added value of an integrative approach that looks complexity in the eye without just explaining it or, worse still, running away from it. On the contrary, taking charge of assisting political actors to expand the response capacity and thus, achieve the necessary and proposed objectives.

Coaching support for leaders

It is very relevant to highlight that part of expanding this response capacity deals with the human factor, that is, with provide the necessary emotional support to these leaders – who also feel, get excited, get stressed, like you and me – so that they can deal with the characteristics of leading and managing with other people in crisis contexts.

On the other handthe political class is listening to the voice of a society that lets you know in different ways, what iessential that it becomes renewing political and public management practices. This is where ontological coaching, based on a conscious approach to the systemic complexity that surrounds and overwhelms, proposes a path of assistance and learning to be observers of this complexity, in order to build greater response capacity. As? Through a level of thinking, analysis and tools that allows us to overcome the crisis and not be engulfed by it.

Crisis and chaos are recurrent variables of systemic complexity. Now, there are also the variables of occasion and opportunity, what is often missing, in the words of Thomas Alva Edison, is “people willing to see them.” Crisis, chaos, challenges and opportunities make societies complex.

The Politicians must take responsibility for government and management assuming this framework. It is worth repeating once again: in this present of changing challenges and opportunities, it is unsustainable and implausible to expect to be successful at any level of management with old perspectives, strategies and recipes.

It is then that more and more political leaders distinguish the need to develop an integrative perspective, so much global (of everything; of the world) as local (of the part; of their municipality, province, nation), to expand the capacity to respond to the systemic complexity that surrounds them and, not infrequently, paralyzes them or only drives them to do more of the same.
