Florida, the gateway to the United States

Florida, the gateway to the United States

Globalization has irreversibly changed the way countries and companies interact in the commercial and cultural spheres. In this context, participation in international events such as the Florida International Trade and Cultural Expo (FITCE) 2024becomes relevant.

FITCE is a strategic event where business and government leaders can discuss and forge alliances that transcend borders. More than 2,000 attendees, businessmen and politicians from 70 different countries, create a good setting to showcase the exportable offer and explore new business opportunities.

The event is hosted by Broward County, located in the center of southern Florida, between Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. Its headquarters are in Fort Lauderdale, and it has 31 municipalities including Weston, Hallandale, and Hollywood, among others with significant Argentine and Uruguayan populations.

Its GDP ranks 25th out of the 3,033 counties in the United States. It is US$130 billion. It has a commercial and passenger airport with an annual movement of more than 23 million people. 12 million passengers pass through Ezeiza each year and 2 million through Montevideo.

In Fort Lauderdale you will find Port Evergladesone of the busiest cruise ports in the world. It is a leading container port in Florida and one of the busiest cargo ports in the United States.

All of this is the county, because if we scale up a bit and talk about the state of Florida, its GDP is equal to the sum of Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile and Peru. It is the state with the highest internal migration; hundreds of Americans settle in Florida every day.

FITCE’s vision of empowering citizens through global economic development is especially relevant to Latin America, a region struggling to fully integrate into global trade. Scheduled activities such as “Doing Business with the World” and “Speed Matchmaking with Country Representatives” are valuable tools for entrepreneurs from Uruguay and Argentina to access markets that would otherwise be difficult to access.

The United States exports USD 430 billion to Latin America and the Caribbean and imports USD 500 billion.

The US market is very large and tempting. So much so that less than 5% of American companies export. Participation in FITCE 2024 is a good opportunity to build bridges with these companies and of course do business in Florida, and from there, hopefully throughout the United States.
