The ANMAT prohibits the sale of several brands of cosmetic products due to health risks

The brand belongs to BM and its products do not have the corresponding health registration. Several of the products could be harmful to health.

The National Administration of Drugs, Foods and Medical Technology (ANMAT) issued Provision 9183/2024, in which it orders the prohibition of use, advertising, marketing and distribution of a variety of hair cosmetic products of the BM brand. According to the agency, these products do not have the corresponding health registration, which makes them a risk to public health.

The list of prohibited products includes straightening, shampoo and hair masks, identified under names such as “Scentless Mota Straightening”, “Acid Shampoo”, “3D Straightening” and “Coconut Mask”. These articles were promoted on digital platforms without complying with established regulations.

Presence of formaldehyde and health risks

The ANMAT detected that some of the unregistered hair straightening products could contain formaldehyde, a substance permitted only in strictly controlled concentrations. However, its use as a straightener is prohibited, since Exposure to its vapors can cause eye and skin irritation, respiratory problems and even, in cases of prolonged exposure, increase the risk of developing certain types of cancer, such as nasopharyngeal carcinomas.

Lacking data on production conditions and the establishment where they were produced, these products do not ensure consumer protection, which increases the likelihood of negative health consequences.

  • Keratin Without Formol
  • Hair Botox

In addition to these, the ANMAT detected other products linked to hair treatments that were offered through social networks such as Instagram and online stores.

Recall and alert

The ANMAT ordered the withdrawal of these products from the market and instructed the removal of publications in which they were promoted. Likewise, the organization recalled the importance of verifying the registration of any cosmetic product with the competent authorities, since those that are not registered represent a health risk.

The ban applies to the entire national territoryand consumers are recommended to avoid using the listed products to protect their health.
