The candidates of Broad Front (FA), Yamandu Orsi, and of National Party (PN), Alvaro Delgado are measured tonight in a presidential debate that will be the only one-on-one that the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic will have in the framework of the campaign for the 2024 runoff.
The event began at 9 p.m. and is broadcast on national radio and television, as established by Law 19,827 with simultaneous interpretation in sign language. The president of the Electoral Court, Wilfredo Penco, gave an initial message highlighting the “historic” fact that Uruguay attended the second debate before the runoff and then recalled the characteristics that the second electoral round will have, calling “Uruguayans to attend the polls and give the world a renewed lesson in civility.
“I want to be president of Uruguay,” said Orsi, who had the opening greeting in the presidential debate and in which he recalled his management as mayor of Canelones. Furthermore, he promised a change, but not a radical one.

Meanwhile, according to the provisions after the Electoral Court draw, Orsi will be located on the right and will open and close the debate, as well as blocks 2 and 4. Delgado, on the left, will conclude axes 1, 3 and 5.
In turn, at the end of the debate, each candidate will have two minutes to deliver their final message.
