Who was José de San Martín
General José de San Martín born February 25, 1778. He is one of the personalities in Argentine history who achieved the undisputed recognition of all Argentinians. He was a key figure for the realization and consolidation of our political independence. In addition, he contributed decisively to the independence processes in Chile and Peru; Therefore, he was an indispensable man for the emancipation of the South American peoples.
José de San Martín, after completing elementary studies in Málaga, where his family had settled, joined in 1789 as cadet to the Murcia Regimentof the infantry weapon. While he was part of the royal army with a garrison in Spain, he initially fought in Africa against the Moors (Islamic Arabs who lived in the north of that continent) and later did so in Europe or in the neighboring seas, in wars with France, England and Portugal. This determined his participation in thirty-one war actions, one of them being the battle of Arjonilla.
In 1811he requested and obtained his retirement from the royal army, left Spain via Portugal and moved to London, where he hoped to realize his goal of moving to America. The general died at the age of 72 on August 17, 1850 in Boulogne sur Mer (France) where he had moved in 1848. That day commemorates his passage to Immortality.
The fortune of Saint Martin
Despite being one of the most recognized heroes in the country, and having some knowledge of his fortune, there is no specific figure of the total capital of the father of the country. Therefore, through the data collected by Djerenderedjian, especially from the propertiesan estimated calculation could be made of the amount of money that his real estate assets represented. This, including the rents of the properties that he had about $133,794 pesos at that timewhich would be equivalent, in 1850, to US$139,145. Which means a total, carried over to 2024, of US$5,179,340.
