What are the functions of a social worker

The functions of a social worker are as diverse as the problems that arise for the professional to solve, in general they seek to promote development, cohesion and social transformation and among others we can highlight:

  • Prevent causes of individual and collective conflicts
  • Provide direct care so that the same people can face and respond to daily social conflicts
  • Plan and develop an action plan with specific objectives for support and evaluation
  • Teaching
  • Promote social insertion for better individual and collective development of people

Why did the date change occur?

Before the date change, the anniversary was celebrated on July 2. But that day was related to a religious situation that had little to do with the current challenges of the profession. It had been proposed in 1961 by social worker Marta Ezcurra, who belonged to the International Catholic Union of Social Service, to honor the Day of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary to her cousin Saint Elizabeth.

The new date refers to the anniversary of the Declaration of Universal Human Rights Day, and was proposed by the Argentine Federation of Professional Associations of Social Service in 2012.
