Javier Milei will receive the Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia this Saturday at Casa Rosada

The president Javier Milei will receive the Venezuelan leader this Saturday at Casa Rosada Edmundo González Urrutiathe main opposition candidate in the elections of last July 28, today exiled in Spain. He will be recognized by the Government as elected president of Venezuela.

The meeting will take place in the midst of tension between the Argentine and Venezuelan governments over the arrest of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo. This Friday, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures in favor of Gallo, at the request of the government of Javier Milei.

González Urrutia will arrive at the Casa Rosada at 11. It will be an act of support for the Venezuelan leader, who was proclaimed winner of the presidential elections in his country on July 28. This result was not recognized by the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela, which validated Nicolás Maduro as the elected president, but without showing electoral records despite international claims.

Despite this scenario, González Urrutia and Corina Machado, another of the banned leaders in Venezuela, are preparing to return to their country to assume the presidency on January 10, date established by the constitution to begin a new mandate.

“The Venezuelan Constitution only allows one president. I am the one who will take office on January 10“, said González Urrutia.

Milei’s support for the Venezuelan opposition

Milei was forceful in his support for Urrutia in the last elections on July 28 and accused the current president Nicolás Maduro of having committed fraud to win the elections. To date, the ruling party has not yet released the electoral records, despite multiple international complaints.

Based on Milei’s sayings about the elections, the Venezuelan government expelled the Argentine diplomatic corpswho left the country hours later, and from that moment the representation was in the hands of Brazil.

After the elections, the opposition candidate was forced to leave the country since the Venezuelan prosecutor’s office filed an arrest warrant, accused of conspiracy, usurpation of functions, instigation of rebellion and sabotage. Since September 8, he has been exiled in Spain although he is already preparing to return, together with Maria Corina Machadoto assume the presidency on January 10, despite the resistance of the regime of Ripe.

In addition to Milei, international figures such as the Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloniand the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinkenthey recognized Gonzalez Urrutia as the president-elect. For its part, the Supreme Court of Venezuela ratified the current ruler, Nicolas Maduroas the winner of the presidential elections.
