SpaceX: the moment Elon Musk’s Starship explodes and disintegrates after takeoff

The ship Starship of the company SpaceX blew up this Thursday during the seventh test flight, after taking off this afternoon from the base starbase of the company, near Brownsville, in the state of Texas. His remains were seen falling from the Caribbean.

The company of technology magnate Elon Musk stated during the live broadcast that it had lost contact with the ship, which was due to land in the Indian Ocean. However, later images of the moment the remains of part of the ship fell, suggesting that It disintegrated on its return.

Shortly after launch, the Starship’s Raptor engines ignited during hot separation. The rocket’s Super Heavy booster successfully returned to the launch site and achieved a repeat of the “stick catch” method, using mechanical arms called “Mechazilla” on the launch tower to catch the booster on its return. However, the Starship lost communication with the ground.

SpaceX confirmed on social network X that the Starship suffered an “unscheduled rapid disassembly” during its ascent phase. “Teams will continue to review data from today’s test flight to better understand the root cause,” SpaceX said, adding: “In a test like this, success lies in what we learn. And today’s flight will help us improve Starship’s reliability.”

The seventh test flight included a new generation ship with significant improvements and was intended to attempt the first Starship payload deployment test, conduct multiple re-entry experiments aimed at capture and reuse of the ship, and launch and recover the Super Heavy propellant.

With the disassembly of the spacecraft, the only objective achieved was the launch and ground capture of the Super Heavy booster. SpaceX’s Starship system, which combines the Starship spacecraft and the Super Heavy rocket, is a completely reusable transportation system with the goal of sending humans and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond.

The Starship plays a key role at NASA as it is the vehicle selected to transport astronauts on the final leg of their journey to the Moon during the Artemis III mission, currently scheduled for 2026.
