The WHO noted an increase in the number of new deaths in the world from coronavirus

Although Omicron causes a less severe course of the disease than Delta, it remains a dangerous virus, especially for the unvaccinated, Melita Vujnovich, the representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, recalled in an interview with Izvestia.
Data from countries that have passed the peak of Omicron infection show that most patients have moderate to mild symptoms. However, there are still severe and fatal cases.

“Globally, during the week of January 24-30, 2022, the number of new cases of COVID-19 remained at the level recorded during the previous week, while the number of new deaths increased by 9%. An increase in the number of cases was recorded in the Western Pacific (by 37%), the Eastern Mediterranean (24%) and European regions (which includes Russia) (7%). And the Americas (20%) and Southeast Asia (8%) reported a reduction in new cases, ”she said.

In the same period, globally, the largest number of new cases were in the United States of America, France, India, Brazil and Germany. If we talk about the number of deaths, then most of them were in the United States, India, Russia, Brazil and Italy, Melita Vujnovic added.
