A group of ships of the Caspian Flotilla will go to the Black and Mediterranean Seas

From the composition of the Caspian flotilla, operational detachments of ships will be formed for operations in the Black and Mediterranean Seas. The decision on this was made by the Russian Defense Ministry, sources in the military department told Izvestia.

It is noted that the basis of such associations will be ships armed with modern missiles: cruise “Caliber” and supersonic “Onyx”. First of all, we are talking about small missile ships (RTOs) of project 21631 Buyan-M and heavy patrol ships of project 11661 Gepard.

According to experts, their appearance in the Mediterranean and Black Seas will strengthen the Russian fleet in the southern strategic direction and become an additional deterrent for potential adversaries.

In the near future, operational detachments will be sent to the Crimea and the Syrian Tartus to strengthen the composition of the operational groups of the Russian Navy in these regions.

The Caspian flotilla constantly conducts exercises at sea ranges, where the actions of groups of ships are practiced. The Ministry of Defense reported that last fall, more than 20 warships, as well as boats and support vessels, were involved in them. They worked out new elements of naval combat with the transfer of fire and the distribution of targets.
