Hamburg: “Last generation” climate activists block Köhlbrand bridges

On Monday morning, the group “Uprising of the Last Generation” blocked the Köhlbrand Bridge in Hamburg. She wants to expand her protests – despite heavy criticism.

Due to a demonstration by several climate activists, the Hamburg Köhlbrand Bridge was closed on Monday morning. The police asked all road users on Twitter to bypass the bridge over an arm of the Süderelbe. Around 10:30 a.m., the police announced on Twitter that the people on the western entrance and exit to the Köhlbrand Bridge were off the road. The direction of travel to the A7 was passable again a short time later. The opposite direction is still closed due to cleaning work.

Hamburg: Glued to the street with superglue and construction foam

The small group “uprising of the last generation” says it wants to use its sharply criticized actions against food waste and for more climate protection. She is demanding a food rescue law from the federal government. Demonstrators had also glued themselves to the street with superglue and construction foam.

After blockades on motorways, the initiative announced on Sunday that it would expand its activities to ports and airports if there were no concrete government commitments to implement a food rescue law by the evening.

For their actions, the group received sharp criticism not only from drivers, but also from politics, because traffic and people could be endangered. It was also said that no political demand justifies breaking the rule of law. The police filed dozens of criminal charges.
