More than 250 firefighters, supported by 82 vehicles and nine aircraft, put out a fire at 11:00 pm in a bush and eucalyptus area in Tramagal, municipality of Abrantes, due to winds interfering with work.
“There are a lot of funds on site, and more on the way, in a difficult situation, the fight against which is hampered by the wind on the spot and some ledges,” said António Manuel Jesús, commander of the Abrantes volunteer firefighters. Lusa around 20:00, in the Santarém area.
An official source from the District Command for Relief Operations (CDOS) Santarém, in turn, told Luza that “the right flank of the fire is giving way to assets” that are “repositioning”.
Also, according to the CDOS source, “there are no dangerous houses” and, despite the demobilization of aircraft at 20:00, the fire “should be brought under control in the next few hours.”
The fire has been raging since 6:10 p.m., according to the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Administration.
The fire was extinguished on Thursday morning at around 2 am.
There are still 209 operational staff on site, assisted by 70 vehicles.
