Fact check: does 3G also apply at the polling station?

There is a lot of fake news and conspiracy theories floating around ahead of the general election. One is: The 3G rule applies at the polling station – this is nonsense, as our fact check knows.

If the 3G rule applies in restaurants or in the gym, for example, all visitors must be vaccinated, recovered or tested. But what about voting?

Claim: 3G applies in polling stations: Those who do not adhere to them are not allowed to vote.

Valuation: Not correct.

Facts: “Voting at the polling station is possible without a corona vaccination or test,” said the federal government via its official Facebook channel. Accordingly, unvaccinated and untested people can also cast their votes on site on September 26th.

Wear a mask when going to the urn

This is also evident from the corona ordinances of the federal states: In the most populous federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, for example, no 3G certificates are required for “public elections”. In an information sheet, the Berlin State Returning Officer replied to the question “Does the 3G rule apply to access to the polling station?” with: “No, you only have to wear a mask.”

The Federal Returning Officer also points out that, depending on the infection situation in the individual federal states, a mask requirement (medical or FFP2) may apply when going to the ballot box.
