Olaf Scholz and the new friends of the turning point

Olaf Scholz and the new friends of the turning point

Four days, three countries: the Federal Chancellor is visiting Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Olaf Scholz is pushing for better trade relations and hoping for raw materials for Germany. On the road with someone who maintains old friendships – and is looking for new markets.

It is one of the privileges of a Federal Chancellor to be able to celebrate things that hardly anyone at home knows. Or do you, dear readers, know what the new supply chain law says? Just. A group of young Argentines had probably never heard of this flagship product of German legislation either – until they met Olaf Scholz, 64, SPD.

Argentina, Chile and Brazil, three countries in four days. The chancellor is up to something. It is his first trip outside of Europe this year. It should be anything but routine.
