Storming the US Capitol: Reports: Special Counsel summons Trump’s daughter Ivanka

After Trump’s ex-vice Mike Pence, his daughter is now also to testify about the storming of the US caption in January 2021. Specifically, it is about the role played by the former US President.

The special counsel for the investigation into former US President Donald Trump is said to have subpoenaed his daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner.

They are to testify before a grand jury, among other things, about Trump’s role in the storming of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, as the “New York Times” and other US media reported on Wednesday evening (local time). The US Department of Justice appointed special counsel Jack Smith in November to oversee the investigation into Trump.

On the one hand, Smith is to deal with the investigations into secret government documents that Trump kept in his private home Mar-a-Lago after leaving office. On the other hand, the special investigator should take care of investigations into the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Pence is also to testify

Two weeks ago it became known that Trump’s former deputy Mike Pence should also testify. He could invoke executive privilege – the government’s prerogative to keep certain information secret.

Trump supporters had stormed the seat of parliament in Washington a good two years ago. Congress met there to formally confirm the election victory of Trump’s democratic challenger Joe Biden. The violent crowd wanted to prevent that. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were close advisors to Trump in the White House at the time. Both had been questioned by a committee of inquiry about the storming of the Capitol last year.
