Crime: Haseloff condemns arson attack on MP’s office

There was an arson attack on the office of SPD member of the Bundestag Karamba Diaby in Halle. Thanks to the quick intervention of passers-by, the suspected arsonist was arrested.

Saxony-Anhalt’s Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff has sharply condemned the alleged arson at the constituency office of SPD member of the Bundestag Karamba Diaby in Halle. “Attacks on the offices of politicians and democratic institutions are intended to unsettle those responsible and the population,” said the CDU politician on Thursday. The connections should be clarified quickly and the perpetrators should be held accountable.

Haseloff paid particular tribute to the passers-by who caught the suspected arsonist and held him until the police arrived. “We should all be aware of the value of democracy and protect it consistently. My respect therefore goes to the brave passers-by who were able to confront the alleged perpetrator.”

The fire at the door of the citizens’ office of the member of the Bundestag Diaby broke out on Wednesday evening in Halle (Saale). Witnesses noticed the flames in the building and alerted the emergency services. The suspected arsonist has been arrested. The police assume arson and the investigation is ongoing. The fire was extinguished after a short time.
