Thousands of people are flocking to the United States in hopes of a relaxed border policy. For US President Joe Biden, the situation is a political powder keg. And the clock is ticking.
The situation is getting worse at the southern US border. Thousands of people have been holding out on both sides of the border for weeks and months, often in miserable conditions. In Texas, the cities of El Paso, Brownsville and Laredo have already declared states of emergency. Families sleep there under tarpaulins, young people ask for bus tickets to the next big city, small children beg for food.
They all look forward to Thursday evening with hope and fear at the same time.
