According to Palestinian sources, two men were shot dead during an Israeli military operation near Nablus in the West Bank. There are also said to have been three injuries. This was preceded by an exchange of fire between armed Palestinians and Israeli soldiers.

Another deadly clash broke out in the West Bank. A 19-year-old and a 32-year-old were shot in the head, the Ministry of Health in Ramallah said on Saturday. Three other people were injured, including a woman in her 50s. She was hit by multiple bullets, according to paramedics.

According to the Israeli military, soldiers on site searched a hiding place for suspects who are said to have planned attacks. Explosives, firearms and other military equipment were confiscated. During the operation, armed Palestinians opened fire on the soldiers. Then it was shot back.

Over 100 dead since the beginning of the year in the Nablus region

Nablus is considered a stronghold of militant Palestinians. Deadly clashes with the Israeli military regularly occur in the region. The security situation in Israel and the West Bank has long been extremely tense. Since the beginning of the year, at least 110 Palestinians have been shot dead there during Israeli military operations, confrontations or after their own attacks. During the same period, 17 Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian were killed in attacks.

Israel conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem during the 1967 Six-Day War. The Palestinians, on the other hand, are calling for the areas to be a state of their own – with East Jerusalem as the capital.
