When the war is over, the US and Germany should send their own soldiers to Ukraine, says US political scientist Michael O’Hanlon. He also explains how Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy could change the debate about the war.
Ukraine is preparing its spring offensive. Will this be a turning point in the war?
Michael O’Hanlon: It should be a turning point, even if there is no military turning point. If Ukraine doesn’t make significant progress, the government in Kiev will argue that they need F16 fighter jets all the more. That the Western tanks were late. And that it would be good if Ukraine finally became a NATO member in order to at least protect the unoccupied parts of the country.
