What about Bachmut? Moscow and Kiev have conflicting views on whether the longest battle of the war is over, meaning the city has been captured by the Russians or not. On Saturday, the head of the mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin proclaiming the capture. The Ukrainian leadership, however, denies the success. The military is sticking – at least rhetorically – to Bachmut. “Our soldiers hold fortifications and some premises in the southwest of the city,” said the spokesman for Army Group East. However, he acknowledged that the situation was critical.
It was later said that the Ukrainian troops on the flanks had made further advances. The military has taken over several mountain ranges, making it difficult for the Russians to stay in Bakhmut. The Ukrainian forces have already formed a semicircle around the city. According to the Army Group spokesman, the military had advanced further. “Especially in the last 24 hours we advanced about 200 meters in some sections”.
