US military vehicles were apparently used in the attack on the Russian border region of Belgorod. DAccording to the New York Times, at least three “MRAP” (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) were used. Two of these vehicles were apparently confiscated by the Russian side, the newspaper reports after evaluating photos and videos published on Telegram, among others. It is unclear how the pro-Ukrainian attackers got hold of these vehicles and how they ended up in Russian hands after the attack on Monday.
According to the newspaper, the United States had made several hundred of these vehicles available to the Ukrainian military. According to video recordings, these have so far been used on various front sections in Ukraine. “We are currently skeptical about the veracity of these reports,” quoted the New York Times as saying Matthew Miller, a spokesman for the US State Department. The United States would not have encouraged or facilitated attacks within Russia. That was also made clear, emphasized Miller. “But as we also said, it is up to Ukraine to decide how to wage this war.”
