Did pop singer Melanie Müller show the audience the Hitler salute several times during a performance? The District Court of Leipzig is now to decide whether to open proceedings.
The public prosecutor’s office in Leipzig has filed charges against pop singer Melanie Müller because she is said to have shown the Hitler salute several times in public. The 34-year-old had denied the allegations and rejected any proximity to right-wing extremists.
The investigators refer to an incident on the night of September 18, 2022 in Leipzig. At an event, she is said to have repeatedly shown the Hitler salute to the audience from the stage. According to Müller, the gesture in question was a fueling movement for the audience.
The prosecutor’s office in Leipzig announced that the charge was for the use of symbols belonging to unconstitutional and terrorist organizations. The district court of Leipzig now has to decide whether to admit the charges and open main proceedings.
In connection with the investigation, the police had searched Müller’s house in Leipzig last year. The presumption of innocence applies to the singer, who is also known for her Ballermann performances on Mallorca.
