research by star and RTL disclose: Politicians in Brandenburg may have leveraged the State Environment Agency to procure additional water for the expansion of the Tesla factory and other industrial settlements. The drinking water supply for the local population in one of the driest regions of Germany is in danger.
In March of this year, Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke decided to take an unusual step. The SPD politician wrote a letter to Tesla boss Elon Musk. The text read like a pleading that the American multi-billionaire should not lose interest in Brandenburg. “Dear Mr. Musk” began the letter, in which the Prime Minister emphasized his “gratitude” for the electric car factory that Musk had opened a year earlier in Grünheide, 30 kilometers east of Berlin-Mitte, and where 10,000 people already work . However, the expansion plans have been stalled for a few months. Also because Musk had built his gigafactory in one of the driest regions of Germany and the local water supplier warned: There was simply no water for the planned further expansion stages. But Woidke promised Musk that he and his cabinet were “very committed” to “solving problems for you before the summer.”
research by star and RTL are now revealing the unorthodox methods with which Woidke and his government apparently tried to organize water for the electric car manufacturer and other industrial settlements.
