Three years ago, people from the Reichsbürger scene stormed up the stairs to the Reichstag with flags. A similar protest is taking place today.
On the third anniversary of the storming of a staircase to the Reichstag building in Berlin, only a few demonstrators from the so-called Reich citizen scene gathered at the same location.
Only 10 to 15 participants showed up for a rally at noon on the lawn in front of the Reichstag building, including a well-known representative of the “Reichsbürger” as a speaker. Some had flags of Russia or the GDR with them. 300 demonstrators were registered with the police.
A small rally by a well-known right-wing extremist has also been registered for the afternoon from 2 p.m., which alludes to the riots on the stairs on August 29, 2020. At the same time, counter-demonstrators announced a “protest against a right-wing extremist rally in the government district”. 80 participants were given to the police for this.
Review 2020
On August 29, 2020, tens of thousands of people protested against the Corona laws in Berlin’s government district. Among them were right-wing extremists, so-called Reich citizens and conspiracy ideologues.
On the Reichstag, a few hundred demonstrators from the Reichsbürger scene broke through a police barricade in front of the visitor entrance and ran up the stairs to the building, bawling flags. There were only a few police officers, who stopped the demonstrators. This triggered heated debates in politics, and there was often talk of a “storming of the Reichstag.”
