Rustem Umyerov takes over key ministry amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. It is the first change in the parliament appointed by Zelenskyj 18 months ago.
The Ukrainian parliament has confirmed the appointment of the new defense minister, Rustem Umyerov. Local media reported that 338 MPs voted in favor of the decision on Wednesday, with 226 votes required.
The draft resolution had been submitted by President Volodymyr Zelenskyj. He had already announced the personnel on Sunday. Predecessor Oleksiy Resnikov had been dismissed. Umerov previously held the post of head of the State Property Fund.
With the change of ministers, the key ministry appointed by the president was filled for the first time since the Russian invasion more than 18 months ago.
