The AfD reports an increase in membership. The party leaders Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel seem satisfied and believe they know what they were able to do to win people over.
According to its own information, the AfD currently has 34,000 members nationwide, around 5,500 more than a year ago. This was announced by a press spokesman in Berlin. Since September 11, 2022, almost 2,400 members have left the party, compared to 7,800 new members.
“The weakness of our political opponents is our strength,” party leaders Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel were quoted as saying in a statement. The reasons for the increase in members and in the surveys are varied. Weidel and Chrupalla listed, among other things, the AfD’s rejection of the traffic light building energy law and its support for nuclear power and Russian gas to reduce energy prices.
