Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt are followed by Saxony: For the third time, a state association of the AfD has been classified as right-wing extremist. The Office for the Protection of the Constitution had monitored the offshoot for four years.
The Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Saxony has classified the state association of the AfD in the Free State as a confirmed right-wing extremist effort. A legal review lasting several years has shown “undoubtedly” that the AfD regional association is pursuing anti-constitutional goals, said Dirk-Martin Christian, President of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, on Friday in Dresden. “There are no longer any doubts about the right-wing extremist orientation of the AfD Saxony.”
The Office for the Protection of the Constitution had previously observed the Saxon AfD for four years, initially as a test case and since February 2021 as a so-called suspected case. Already in April, the AfD’s youth organization, the Saxon regional association of Junge Alternative, was classified as having proven right-wing extremist tendencies.
AfD is the third right-wing extremist regional association in Saxony
According to the Saxon Office for the Protection of the Constitution, numerous substantive positions of the AfD regional association are directed against the basic principles of the free democratic basic order, for example in the migration issue against the guarantee of human dignity anchored in the Basic Law. The party represents “typical ethnic-nationalist positions”. The AfD regional association also uses common anti-Semitic, mostly conspiracy-ideological positions that are regularly used by right-wing extremists and Reich citizens.
After the state associations in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt, the Saxon AfD is the third state association of the AfD to be classified as definitely right-wing extremist. Such a classification means that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution can use secret service resources without restrictions to obtain information about extremist activities of the regional association.
