Two Afghans who are said to have planned an attack in Sweden have fallen into the hands of the federal prosecutor in Thuringia. Now the two suspected Islamists had to compete in Karlsruhe.
The two terror suspects arrested yesterday in Thuringia are in custody. The arrest warrant against a 23-year-old Afghan was executed today, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe.
His 30-year-old compatriot had to appear before the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice yesterday. The men are accused of planning a firearms attack on the Swedish parliament on behalf of an affiliate of the Islamic State.
The two men were arrested in Gera in Thuringia. They are said to have specifically prepared an attack from summer 2023 in response to the burning of the Koran in Sweden. Among other things, they are said to have scouted the area around the Swedish parliament and tried unsuccessfully to obtain weapons. There was a close exchange with officials of the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISPK). The ISPK is currently engaged in an armed conflict with the militant Islamist Taliban in Afghanistan and is considered a particularly dangerous subgroup of IS by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
Specifically, the investigators accuse the two of not only being members of or supporting a terrorist organization abroad, but also conspiring to commit a crime, in this case murder, as well as violating the Foreign Trade Act.
