According to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the AfD youth organization in Thuringia is right-wing extremist

The AfD youth organization in Thuringia is now considered to be definitely right-wing extremist. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has had the Young Alternative in its sights for years.

The Junge Alternative (JA) Thuringia has been classified as definitely right-wing extremist by the state’s Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The classification had already taken place on March 28th.

The State Ministry of the Interior in Erfurt announced this on Thursday with reference to a decision by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. “The positions represented by the JA Thuringia are incompatible with the Basic Law and the Thuringian State Constitution”the statement said.

Young alternative under observation for years

JA Thuringia is the youth organization of the Thuringian AfD, whose regional association has been classified as proven right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since 2021. Since then, she has not become politically moderate, according to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. “The current JA Thuringia regularly refers to an ethnically homogeneous German nation and a German descent community”the statement said. Such an idea formulates biological assumptions about who can be German and who cannot. This contradicts the Basic Law.

The JA does not limit itself to political expressions. “It works in an action-oriented and experience-oriented manner in order to give the impression that its anti-constitutional positions are capable of gaining public support”.

Other AfD youth organizations in the crosshairs

The Thuringian regional association of the AfD is led by Björn Höcke as party leader. Throughout Germany, JA, as the AfD’s junior organization, has been classified by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution as a proven right-wing extremist organization since 2023. The JA regional associations in Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt were also classified as definitely right-wing extremist.
