Crime: Hacker attack on websites in the northeast fended off

Hackers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have once again launched attacks on Internet servers that can be used to reach ministries and the police. The attack was repelled more quickly than previous attacks.

According to the Interior Ministry, the latest hacker attack on the websites of the state government and the police in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been fended off. A good day after mass requests prevented access, all affected websites are once again available without restrictions, the ministry said in response to a query this afternoon.

The attacks were noticed early so that the necessary security measures could be taken immediately.

Similar incidents, in which the servers were deliberately overloaded with massive requests, also occurred in April and November of last year. Since further attacks of this kind cannot be ruled out, the IT security specialists are closely monitoring the behavior of the systems in order to be able to react quickly in the event of a new wave.

According to the Interior Ministry, various websites belonging to the state government, the state police and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution have only been accessible to a limited extent since Thursday morning. It is not yet clear where the attack came from.
