Ukrainian President Zelensky is expected in Berlin next week. He does not only want to take part in the reconstruction conference for his country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will also give a speech in the Bundestag next Tuesday during his stay in Berlin. The German Press Agency learned this from parliamentary circles on Friday.
Selenskyj will attend the two-day Ukraine reconstruction conference on Tuesday and Wednesday in Berlin. He will open the conference on Tuesday together with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), as the federal government announced at the beginning of May. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” was the first to report on the planned speech in the Bundestag.
Zelensky had already spoken to MPs on March 17, 2022, three weeks after the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. At that time, however, he was connected live to the plenary hall via video. Zelensky made a passionate appeal to parliament and the federal government to help his invaded country. His speech ended with the appeal: “Support us. Support peace. Support every Ukrainian. Stop the war. Help us stop it!”
The Bundestag will meet for a regular session next week. However, it will have to change its usual schedule for the speech because only the parliamentary groups will meet on Tuesday afternoon and not the parliament as a whole.
