The conference for the reconstruction of Ukraine is taking place in Berlin. Alex Lissitsa is one of the country’s best-known farmers. The consequences of the war for the agricultural sector there are dramatic, he says in an interview with starSome of his employees now drive tanks instead of tractors – but reconstruction can succeed. But how?
Mr. Lissitsa, your farm is mainly located in areas that border Belarus and Russia. Can your people even work in the fields?
That’s right, of our 120,000 hectares of land, 100,000 are in Chernihiv and Sumy. After the first few months of the war, the areas were liberated, but the problem of mines remains: there are mines or the remains of ammunition in the ground on 33,000 hectares. We have only lost two tractors in explosions since the war began, and fortunately none of our employees died. But the Russians stole many of our cars at the time.
