Fridays for Future: Luisa Neubauer criticizes ignorance of climate policy

Even the flood disaster was not enough to open the eyes of politicians, complains Fridays for Future. Climate activist Luisa Neubauer demands concrete action.

The climate movement Fridays for Future has accused German politicians of persistent ignorance of climate policy with a view to the flood disaster.

“The climate crisis is here, it cannot be overlooked,” said leading German climate activist Luisa Neubauer on Friday in Hamburg shortly before the planned demo. In this context, the politicians are currently making announcements about everything that should be done better. “But we also see that these announcements are often vanished into thin air when it comes to putting them into action,” said Neubauer of the German press agency. Fridays for Future, however, does not measure politics by their words, but by their actions. “And there we see that this government is obviously unwilling to accept this climate catastrophe.”

Right now, German climate policy must be questioned in a completely new way, said Neubauer. «1.5-degree policy looks different. It is possible and we fight for it. ” To this end, politicians must decide against new fossil fuel projects and new gas pipelines, a quick phase-out of coal and a fair CO2 price that reflects the costs.

In the afternoon, the climate movement wanted to use the motto “The climate crisis is here!” in Hamburg with around 500 participants from the Heiligengeistfeld over the Reeperbahn to the fish market. During the solidarity rally, the more than 170 victims of the floods should also be remembered and money should be collected. The protests and rallies were planned nationwide on Friday.
