Migration: Wagenknecht criticises federal-state meeting as “double zero”

The state premiers have agreed with Chancellor Scholz to further explore asylum assessments outside the EU. The BSW boss believes this is not enough.

Party founder Sahra Wagenknecht has criticized the results of the conference of prime ministers on migration as inadequate. “That was not a double whammy, but a double zero from Scholz and the state leaders,” said the chairwoman of the alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).

Migration is one of the most pressing problems for citizens, warned Wagenknecht. However, those involved have only agreed on vague things and have postponed the meeting until December. This is fueling a crisis of confidence in politics. “Yesterday was another low point in the federal-state conferences,” said the BSW head.

Scholz had agreed with the state premiers to continue to examine whether asylum procedures are possible in countries outside the European Union. Concrete results are expected to be available in December. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) had already obtained opinions from experts on the legal and practical requirements for asylum examinations in third countries. However, when asked what options there were, Scholz said: “I think that is too early.”
