Bodo Ramelow in trouble: Seven weeks before the Thuringian state election, the Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) alliance is ahead of the governing Left Party. Now the head of government is reacting.
No, he really couldn’t take the BSW seriously, said Bodo Ramelow early on. After all, the party has very few members and hardly any program: “It’s a phantom.”
Because Sahra Wagenknecht had named the party after herself, the Thuringian Left Party Prime Minister accused his former comrade of “personality cult”. star he even asked this rhetorical question: “Is this an oligarchy or even a caliphate?”
BSW could govern, and the Left would be out
Ramelow’s only problem is that the alleged phantom is at 20 percent in the polls – and his left-wing state party is only at 11 to 14 percent. At least mathematically, this means that a Wagenknecht caliphate is not yet in sight, but there is a potential majority of the CDU, BSW and SPD. At the same time, the current red-red-green coalition together no longer has 30 percent.
That is why the Prime Minister now seems to be taking the BSW a little more seriously. At least he has changed his mind. After being one of the few officials in his party to support arms deliveries to Ukraine, he is now actively advocating a ceasefire. He also supports the so-called peace initiative of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and is outraged at the planned stationing of US medium-range weapons in Germany.
The Bodo Ramelow Alliance
In these points he is no different from Wagenknecht. And Ramelow is now copying his competitor in another area too. The Thuringian Left Party has bought the Internet address www.buendnis-bodo-ramelow.de and linked it to the campaign page of its leading candidate.
“There is now not only the BSW, but also the BBR, the Bodo Ramelow Alliance,” the Prime Minister told the starAfter all, his Left Party advertises on many posters, advertisements and flyers using only his name or face, but without the party logo. “People will then find the Left Party on the ballot paper,” said Ramelow. Thanks to the election victory in the 2019 state elections, his state party would be at the top this time.
Phenomenon versus Phantom
Of course, the Prime Minister wants his BBR PR trick to be viewed with a “squint”. “I am often referred to as a phenomenon,” he said. “Now the phenomenon is wrangling with the phantom.” Smiley command!
However, the virtual counter-alliance does have a tactical disadvantage: the accusation of personality cult against Wagenknecht will probably be more difficult for the informal BBR head Ramelow in the future.
