Ukraine war: Russian drone debris crashes in Romania again

When Russia attacks Ukrainian ports on the Danube, drone remnants often land in neighboring Romania. Now there has been another incident. NATO has made clear statements.

After Russian attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports, remnants of Russian drones have been found again in Romania on the border with Ukraine. Romania has already informed its NATO partners about the discovery near the village of Plauru on the northern branch of the Danube, Chilia, wrote Romania’s Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu on Platform X. According to the Ministry of Defense, the debris comes from a Geran 1/2 drone that Russia used to attack on Wednesday night.

A NATO spokesman said there was no evidence that Russia had deliberately attacked allied territory. At the same time, he described the Russian actions as “irresponsible and potentially dangerous.” He pointed out that NATO had intensified monitoring and control measures in recent days. This also included air patrols. According to NATO, not only drone debris fell on Romanian territory, but entire missiles also entered Romanian airspace.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense says it is investigating whether further Russian attacks in the border area on Thursday night led to further objects falling on Romanian territory in the same region. On both nights, the population in the region was warned of the attacks and asked to seek shelter in shelters or basements.

In addition, surveillance aircraft were launched near the combat zone each time during the attacks from the Romanian side. On the night of Wednesday, these were F-16 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force from the Borcea base in southern Romania, and on the night of Thursday, Finnish F-18 jets from the Mihail Kogalniceanu air force base near the Black Sea, the Defense Ministry said.

Plauru is located directly opposite the Ukrainian Danube port of Izmail, in a sparsely populated region. Last year, debris from Russian drones landed there several times after attacks on Ukrainian ports.
