The Ukrainian military claims responsibility for a successful missile strike against a Russian weapons depot in the Kursk region. Russia presents the results of the attack differently.
After a Ukrainian attack on the Russian border region of Kursk, a fire broke out in a warehouse for weapons and military equipment. The General Staff in Kyiv announced on Telegram that the attack was carried out with a modified missile system from the Ukrainian Navy. Explosions were observed at the target.
The Navy has its own Neptune anti-ship missiles that can also be used against ground targets. These can reach targets at a distance of almost 300 kilometers. Kursk itself is just over 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The Russian Defense Ministry had previously reported that a cruise missile of this type had been shot down over the Kursk region. According to the region’s acting governor, Alexei Smirnov, a fire that broke out has been contained. In addition, according to Russian military sources, a total of 19 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the cities of Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Kaluga, Rostov and the annexed Crimean peninsula.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than two years. In order to disrupt the enemy’s logistics, the Ukrainian military also regularly attacks targets in the Russian hinterland. Kiev is urging its Western allies to allow the use of supplied missiles for attacks on Russian territory.
