An attack on Lars Düsterhöft’s office is causing outrage in the capital and beyond. Initially, there is talk of shots being fired at the window – but the police suspect a different weapon was used.
After an attack on the constituency office of SPD MP Lars Düsterhöft in Berlin-Oberschöneweide, the police’s state security department is investigating. The attack involves property damage with a political background, a police spokeswoman said when asked.
The politician, who sits in the Berlin House of Representatives, published photos of the damage to his office on Facebook. You can see damage to the window pane, behind which a picture of the MP hangs, and on the wall of the house next to it, there is writing in red. “According to initial findings, the damage to the window was probably caused by a sharp object,” the police announced late in the afternoon. Düsterhöft initially interpreted the damage to the window as bullet holes.
Lars Düsterhöft assumes a Middle East connection
According to the statement, the police were called to the constituency office on Siemensstrasse at around 9:30 a.m. In addition to the damage to the window, according to the politician’s photos, the words “We condemn Germany for genocide” were sprayed in red paint on a house wall. “It is clear to me that this refers to the current situation in the Middle East,” Düsterhöft wrote on Facebook.
The SPD parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives condemned the attack. “Dear Lars, we stand firmly by your side!” wrote Social Affairs Senator Cansel Kiziltepe (SPD) on the online platform X. Düsterhöft is the SPD parliamentary group spokesman for social affairs, care and people with disabilities. The Senate was also appalled. “Attacks on parliamentarians are attacks on democratic society as a whole,” explained spokeswoman Christine Richter.
