Two reports have reignited the traffic light dispute over the budget. SPD leader Klingbeil says that now everyone has to do their job – instead of “public dancing”.
SPD leader Lars Klingbeil sharply criticizes the renewed coalition dispute over the 2025 federal budget. “It would have been avoidable to argue again on the open stage,” he said at the party headquarters in Berlin. It is the clear expectation of the citizens and also his own that the government does its job “and then does not always perform this public dance.”
The evaluation of the reports on controversial projects in next year’s budget could have been carried out in the background, quietly, calmly and without any noise. Public communication about it was not necessary. “This is government action, it must not be a drama here in society, it must happen.” He now expects the government to clarify the question of where the missing five billion euros could come from.
Next week, the draft will be submitted to the Bundestag
In recent days, the budget dispute within the traffic light coalition has flared up again. The background to this are three projects that are intended to reduce the funding gap in the budget for the coming year by a total of eight billion euros. Due to legal and economic concerns, Lindner had commissioned reports to evaluate the plans. These partially confirmed the concerns, but also showed ways to implement at least two of the three measures.
Scholz, Lindner and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) now want to look for solutions again by mid-August. Habeck told the Funke media group that he would not comment on the matter until this had been achieved. The draft budget is to be forwarded to the Bundestag next week, which needs a lot of time to deliberate.
