Argentina’s President Javier Milei wants to save the state by destroying it. The people are paying the price for this risky experiment.
On dreary winter days in June 2024, three very different Argentines entered their shaken lives under the new president, the self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist Javier Milei.
There is the entrepreneur Melba Patiño, 54, a voter of Milei, who until recently had a textile business and now lives by feeding the poor. There is the radio employee Horacio Bravo, 44, a technician who worked loyally for the state all his life and is suddenly considered an enemy of the state. There is Javier Milei himself, 51, known as “the madman”, who was once a tantric sex teacher – and has been president of over 47 million people since December 2023.
