Many users of Elon Musk’s online platform X initially tried in vain to hear his conversation with Donald Trump. The tech billionaire blamed a cyberattack for this.
The much-heralded live conversation between tech billionaire Elon Musk and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was plagued by technical problems. The live stream on Musk’s online platform X, formerly Twitter, started about three quarters of an hour late. At first, he was repeatedly unavailable.
Musk claimed on X that the platform had been the target of a massive DDOS attack. In such attacks, websites are bombarded with large numbers of requests in order to bring them to their knees. Musk announced that if necessary, he would speak to Trump live in front of a small audience and then publish a recording.
Trump and Musk first spoke about the assassination attempt in which a gunman injured the former president during a campaign event in the US state of Pennsylvania about a month ago.
The platform showed a figure of around one million listeners – although it was unclear how many of them could hear anything. Musk wrote on X that the livestream system had previously been tested with around 8 million listeners.
When Musk hosted a livestream for the then Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis on X last year, the broadcast began with a significant delay because the servers were initially overloaded. After purchasing Twitter, Musk had laid off numerous employees and cut back on investments.
